Marzena Oberc-Habzda Picture

Marzena Oberc-Habzda was born in Poland. She lived in the beautiful and historic city of Krakow, the art mecca of Poland.  Krakow created an ideal environment for growth and development for a young artist. As a child, Marzena’s favorite activities were drawing, painting or creating little figures out of clay.  She could always be found at her little desk deeply consumed with her latest art project.  She participated in art competitions winning various awards. Marzena’s grammar school art teacher strongly encouraged her to focus on art as a future career. She applied and was accepted to a well-known, one of a kind, art high school called Liceum Plastyczne in Krakow, Poland. There she studied drawing, painting, sculpture and restoration of historic wall frescos. During that time Marzena was introduced to remarkable artists from the past, some of which made a great impact on her. She was very moved by works of Polish artists: Stanislaw Wyspianski, Wojciech Kossak, Wiktor Zin as well as Russian artist like, Ivan Shiskin, Ilya Repin, Nicolai Fechin. Towards the end of high school, Marzena moved to the US with her parents and siblings. After graduating from Mary Immaculate Academy in New Britain, CT., Marzena continued her art studies at the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. There she explored different aspects of fine arts, adding printmaking and stained glass windows to her creative subjects. To further diversify her art skills, Marzena also studied graphic design at Paier Collage of Art in Hamden, CT.  After graduating, Marzena free-lanced and was commissioned to work on various art projects. For the next few years her new family took precedence, and she painted only occasionally. Now, with time to devote to her art career, Marzena is focusing on furthering her art to the highest level.  She loves to be in front of an easel with brushes in hand and so much to say…  creating.  She currently resides in the Houston Texas area with her family.  Marzena greatly admires and is inspired by some of today’s masters like Richard Schmid, Huihan Liu, Clyde Aspevig, David Laffel, Morgan Weistling, Quang Ho, Sherrie MacGraw, Jeffrey Watts, Scot Christensen, Dan Gerhartz and Kathryn Stats, just to name a few.
